How Engaged are Your People – Really!
Disengagement costs businesses over $342B per annum in USA and over $40B in Australia.
It really is disturbing to me that fully engaged team members Worldwide has only improved from 26% to 30% in past 7 years….despite all the attention to numerous surveys and facts that show fully engaged people are around 30% more productive than the “fence sitters” that still number around 50%. This is without talking about the “Actively Disengaged” who still number about 20%. This group, I call the “Bad Apples” actively undermine your business, trying to influence the fence sitters that this is not a great place to work.

I see the middle ground or “Fence Sitters” as the sweet spot for leaders, these people are waiting to be motivated by engaging leadership that will have them join the actively engaged.
If you are not doing engagement surveys I suggest you start, it is a great way to create a baseline and then take action to improve the issues uncovered. A word of warning though, if you are going to dismiss any negative feedback do not do the survey! I have seen this happen with a number of businesses who used my survey and the failing to address concerns created higher disengagement. On the other hand taking action, no matter how difficult it appears improves engagement and this has been borne out with businesses I work with…their subsequent surveys show a considerable improvement.
Engagement is a feeling……
“People will forget what you say, they will forget what you do, but they will never forget how you made them feel”
